Strawberry Letter 24

Strawberry Letter 24

Strawberry Letter 24

Hey there, my love

I heard a lovin’ spoon of you

Blue velvet running suave and cool

Smokey skies fade to clear

I cool the blaze to be kind

Diamond rivers turn placid in my mind

In the park I see

East daffodils dance, laugh, and sing

Cormorants on the bay spread their wings

Bells ring I hear

So reverent and proud

Orange poppies bloom on a golden cloud

Feel icy cold beat me into blue

Winter birds laugh

When I try to ask,

“Is it true, is it true?”

If you look and still find me here

My wild dove is sweet to me

He wants to settle on a tree

Broken window, orange flames burn too

See lovers of wine

Wax candles melt as we sit in the pines

I loved you before

Strawberry Letter 24

The music plays, you love me more

I loved you before

Strawberry Letter 24

The music plays, I love you more

I love the song Strawberry Letter 23 by Shuggie Otis so I decided to write Strawberry Letter 24 this morning. I used similar themes, rhythm syllables, and form. This was a super fun exercise! Here's a writing exercise for you; take a song or poem about relationships and write a response from the perspective of the person who was at the receiving end of the piece.  :)
